"Fair is Foul, Foul is Fair"----Explain (Macbeth)

"Fair is  Foul, Foul is Fair"----Explain (Macbeth)

It is an opening scene in act-1 scene-1 of William Shakespeare's tragedy play Macbeth, ends with this ringing cry of three Witches. This is the most important Witches's speech in the drama for in the course of the play, it would be fate someone's.

The Three Witches came together in a heath. The atmosphere  is full of thunder and lightning, with the dropping rain they started talking to each other. They predict after the end of the battle  will be before setting of the sun, they will meet Macbeth. Finally they leave the place with this rhythmic cry, what is fear, is foul to them and vice versa. It is not clear in the mind of readers but when Macbeth appears as a fair character at first but in the course of the play, he transforms into a foul one. So, the question is how is this information available to the witches. It is the answer that they are Supernatural Agents and they have the power of the foretelling of the future.

This line strikes the key note of the play. The witches have predicted it on the part of Macbeth and surprisingly enough the predictions prove  to be prophetic. When Macbeth appears for the first time,he utters ," So foul and fair a day, I haven't seen". This is forecast of the weather but later it will be found that this cry of the Witches reflects the character of Macbeth 'Bellona's bridegroom' that is fair Macbeth  after commitng murder, transforms into 'Hellkite' a foul one. So, undoubtedly the witches's  powerful prediction is balanced with the role of Macbeth.

Write a note on Joyce's use of epiphany in A Portrait of The Artist As a Young Man.

Write a note on Joyce's use of epiphany in A Portrait of The Artist As a Young Man . Answer> Epiphany denotes 'manifestation 'or ' showing forth' . This term refers to the incarnation of a divine being ,referring to the festival commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, often called the “Magi”, but in   A Portrait of The Artist as A Young Man , James Joyce uses moments of clarity and a recognition of another perspective as "epiphanies." The reader becomes aware of the change in Stephen's character, however momentary, and this drives the plot of the novel. In  Stephen Hero , an earlier version of  A Portrait of The Artist as a Young Man , Stephen is referring to the clock at the Ballast Office, a seemingly insignificant building and clock but capable of making Stephen think because, "all at once I see it and I know at once what it is: epiphany." James Joyce nicely culminates the final choice of Stephen of vocation an...
