The evergreen star of Sanskrit Literature, poet Kalidasa wrote the story "Abhigyan Shakuntalam" to portrait the Love or Romance through Sringara Rasa between King Duhsanta and the Queen of Tapoban, Shakuntalam, if the story is based on Mahabharata but the everlasting imagination of Kalidasa, make it unparalleled in the history of Sanskrit Literature and world literature.
At the beginning of The first Act of the play, King Duhsanta’s hunt. The King with bow and arrow in hand is ready to hunt a blackbuck in his chariot with his charioteer.
At the time of aiming, a hermit warned him not to kill the deer since the deer belongs to the Hermitage. He also told King Duhsanta to withdraw his pointed arrow from the poor animal and also reminded him of his duty as a king to protect distressed soul.The king was very impressed by the words and agreed to what he had been told.
The ascetic were invited the king to attend the Sacrificial Fire that would happen at the Ashram of Karva of Tapaban. Kanva was not present at the hermitage but his daughter Shakuntala was in charge of serving guests.
The King was very enthusiastic to see the beautiful girl Shakuntala and appeared in front of them. Seeing the King in disguise they were taken back, especially Shakuntala who felt a spark of passion and strong feeling in her. The King introduced himself as the Minister in charge of Religious Affairs.
Love at first sight in the heart of King Duhsanta by touch of the charming and tender behaviour of Shakuntala and also the king knows the background of her biological parents. Shakuntala also attracted him but Suddenly a voice off-stage warned everyone about the king’s presence in the vicinity of the penance-grove. The meeting was interrupted and they were apart.
